Death Valley – Titus Canyon Abandoned Gold Mine – This mine shaft is in the upper canyon above the ghost town of Leadfield. This canyon is home to one of the greatest deceptions of all time! There was no gold!

When I was flying out to the Grand Canyon last week we flew over an old gold mine that apparently the guy who owned it didn’t find much gold there, but faked that he found a lot to get a loan. Once he got the loan he took the money and ran, so the people that gave him the loan gained the rights to his mine and actually ended up extracting the largest amount of gold ever found in a site in the U.S. at that time I believe! It’s crazy how mining can work out like that.

I wonder if that is common, to make a mine, and not find any gold? I bet there’s some interesting stories around this.
