The Statue of St Francis of Assisi (Monumento a San Francesco/ Monument to St. Francis) bronze sculptural group is work of Giuseppe Tonnini. It was erected in 1927 with the view on the Cathedral of Rome. Before the meeting of St Francis and Innocent III, the pope had a vision with St Francis supporting the Lateran patriarchate ready to drop down. It stands to the right of the basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano on a large base made from peperino stone.
